if the income tax has no legal basis, why hasn’t the country risen up in objection… we did when england tried to tax us for tea… so why not now?
I use the Boston tea party as an example of what is going on and what should be done all the time when talking about this movie. I would love to see the people rise up and take a stand but it would take a whole lot of people and I think the American public is so brain washed and Comfortly oblivious (i like that) that it is goung to take a mass realization. Aaron Ruso has taken a huge step. But do the American people want to hear it? Or are they scared to step forward? I for one am not!
a friend of mine, who leans farther left than i do, insisted that I rent this movie to “learn” why the federal income tax is illegal. And “voluntary”. I love the friend, but this movie is a waste of time and energy. Taxes are not “voluntary”; a tax return must be filed/mailed/electronically sent by a taxpayer and so some people take that to mean that tax obligations are “voluntary”, but if you voluntarily ignore your income tax obligations, the IRS is charged with finding you and collecting what you owe. And how else would we pay for national defense, Medicare for our elderly citzens and Medicaid for the poor, educational Pell grants for the non-affluent, etc??? Remember, before the income tax was constitutionally added to our laws via the 16th amendment in 1913, 1% of the U.S. population controlled 99.5% of the country’s wealth. The income tax has broadened the distribution of wealth since then, by requiring those that benefit most from the opportunities available in America pay the highest tax rates.
The U.S. income tax is indeed a complex being today, and can certainly stand some reform (eg eliminate the stupid AMT). But, 70% of all U.S. taxpayers file the easy Form 1040A or the even easier Form 1040EZ. The 30% of us that file more complex returns because we have more complex situations still pay less income tax than taxpayers in Europe and Japan.
So, if you haven’t seen this movie, don’t waste your time. It sheds no new light – just regurgitates old complaints about how the federal income tax “voluntary” and “unconstitutional”. Amendments are allowed under the constitution, and the federal income tax was brought to law via the 16th amendment to the constitution. In other words, the federal income tax is legal, so get over it and stop complaining about it. It is not a “conspiracy.”

Forget what the movie is telling you, look around for yourself. I could only speak from my own observations and lately things don’t look very good in America: the dollar losing value, rising gas prices, the war on terror, and crazy runaway spending. I don’t know about the next person but to me there’s definitely something wrong with our system. Being a student of history, let me just say the following: during the warring period in Japan (ca. 1200 to approx. 1700) the warlords waged war for the control of the country. They thought that they were in control of the country but in reality it’s the merchants that were in control. That’s what it’s starting to look like in America nowadays. Tell me if I’m wrong or is it just me? That the corporations are looking like the true powers behind the government backing up by the banks, the true power. My logic is telling me through observation that since the Federal Reserve is a private bank they are potentially very dangerous, let’s say they put a person amongst their ranks (or backed by them) in the presidency! I shudder thinking abou it! I could honestly say I was never one to believe in conspiracies or conspiracy theories, but why do all these things start to make sense to me in a strange way?
Personally, I think we should put all our differences aside and question “why” this is happening unless we want to carry on and live in this manner. I don’t think that this is the issue of whether one leans “left” or “right” but what we could do to fix the predicament that we’re in before it’s too late. Life in America is good but it could potentially be even better. We need to wake up and question all that is before us.
Scott, I get what your saying but the problem is you misinterpret the bible. Read the opening passage of revelation, John said “which must shortly take place” and he also said ” I am a fellow partaker”. That being said I do believe we will rise up but this nation will fall just like Rome did if we do not look back and learn from history.
First of all, it is not the federal governments job to give anyone anything! The federal government’s only job is to protect the American people. Period! They are not in the business of healthcare, medicare, food stamps, or anything even remotely close to that! We did not have taxes for 140 years, and America did just fine. It’s time we rose up in one voice and said we’re not going to take it anymore! It’s time for another Boston Tea Party. No on should ever have their house taken, bank accounts, none of that! That’s what communist countries do, not America!
Try watching “Money as Debt” to see how banks actually work… check the quotes by the historically significant figures. If they’re all nuts, we’re REALLY in trouble!

and about half way there used to be a speech by JFK. Saying that ” the secret societies from banking to government to military are ripe ! he says “I will need your help in breaking down this corruption so our nation can be free and independent.”
However, this speech on the more recent edits of “Zeitgeist” is replaced with another clip??

this to me was the most revealing speech ever! JFK then was assassinated. Proving these are no where near new problems. The more you open your eyes to see what has happened the more you research and not just listen to what you are told, the more you learn to read between the lines the better chance people have of understanding. WE ARE LIVING IN A MATRIX PEOPLE ! take the right pill and wake up!
Amanda, we have not rose up because the world we live in now is much different than the world of the 18th century. At that time we were under the power of a absent monarchy, that did not have nearly as much control of there subjects. Now, for instance, we have a government enforced police state with regards to many things. It is not for the faint at heart to even speak out against the status quo, let alone take up arms against the status quo to produce change. Remember, during the peace demonstrations of the 60’s through our current place in history, American’s are imprisoned and found guilty for speaking thier minds in open. If you do not believe me, you need to look at very recent history, where people have been jailed for speaking out aloud at public (mostly political) gatherings. Courts in this country have bent the fabric of our freedom of speach so that all Americans can and most often are prosecuted for speaking there mind.
Now bearing those thoughts, how well do you think several people would do in combating the status quo, be it forcebly or passively?
Another thing that is not mentioned here or elsewhere regarding the illegal taxing of workers (we are not corporations, no matter what legal wording is used…), is that President John F. Kennedy was working on restoring the gold standard and eliminating the Federal Reserve system. There are many debates on why he was assasinated (by his own or by others etc.), but I find it hard to object to the human desire to have more than less. Therefore it is also hard for me to no imagine larger forces at work behind his demise. I always recall Abraham Lincoln saying that we should never give private business the ability to print our money, as it would surely be the downfall of our great democracy. I do believe that we are on the verge of this great fall. It is sad to think that what can be done to remedy the future could so easily be accomplished. Be good apostles, and spread the word that this country needs to replace the Federal Reserve system with the GOld Standard, eliminate the IRS, and return to our roots (prior to 1911).
People who dont believe that income tax is illegal are making the subject way to complicated.
The bill of rights makes income tax illegal except for time of war…for 1 year only.
At the end of the bill of rights it states that an amendment cannot be made that overrides any of the original rights.
Income tax is illegal ……..PERIOD. Anyone who believes that our government would not lie to us…..WAKE UP and GROW UP
